3 reasons for me to keep track of my investments

1) Know how my investments are performing

I invest so as to grow my wealth. Over time, knowing my investment performance together with a sense of the stage of the market cycle we are in, and the fundamentals of my investments helps me to make better investment decisions. Eg. When to buy, when to sell, or diversify my portfolio.

As much as I like to do regular DCA, I would often accumulate a war-chest sum, so as to deploy when opportunities arise.

2) Track my income

Emails that I will be looking forward to every month

No… not the work-related emails, but the emails informing me of my passive income being banked to me. Isn’t it sweet to be informed via the email inbox of your passive income?

StocksCafe

On 3 Feb 2023, I received this email from StocksCafe, that they have added a new feature where I will be notified whenever I receive dividends (i.e. on PayDate), via email!

After I have set up the system, I received an email shortly like the below.

This is one step closer to setting up a system to track the performance of my investments, and to ensure that the dividends are well received.

In addition, within StocksCafe, there is a dividend tab whereby you can track your past and upcoming dividend payout or bond interest payments.

Dividend Channel

Another website that allows free email notification of dividend payout is the Dividend Channel.

You can enter your list of up to 25 ticker symbols below (separated by commas, e.g.: AAPL, MSFT, IBM) and register to receive free email alerts.

They will then email you alerts whenever a new dividend declaration has been made by one of your stocks.

They will also send helpful reminders of upcoming ex-dividend dates and payment dates.

However, unlike StocksCafe which has a record of the number of shares in your portfolio and thus can accurately inform you of the exact dividend payout amount, in the case of the Dividend Channel it just inform you of the new dividend declaration, upcoming ex-dividend dates and payment dates.

3) To meet my financial objectives

By regularly reviewing my investments, it will help to ensure they are on track to meet my financial objectives. Ultimately, at the end of each year, I would tabulate out my net worth to check out how my investment have assisted in helping me achieve my goals.
